Gibson Dunn hires new partner to lead its international arbitration practice in Asia

Dispute resolution lawyer, Paul Tan, has joined Gibson Dunn from Cavenagh Law (Clifford Chance’s alliance firm in Singapore), as a partner. At Gibson Dunn, Tan will head the firm’s international arbitration practice in Asia.

In a statement, Gibson Dunn said: “Tan practices commercial and investor-state international arbitration and international litigation, including arbitration-related litigation. He focuses on disputes across Asia and has extensive experience advising on complex issues of public and private international law. He has acted in disputes in a wide range of industries including telecoms, natural resources, media, technology, oil and gas, construction and real estate, private equity, banking and financial institutions. He regularly advises leading multinational organizations, global insurers, financial institutions, and Asian governments.”

Reed Smith’s corporate practice in Beijing gets boost with new partner hire

Barbara Li has joined Reed Smith’s Beijing office as partner in its Global Corporate Group. Li has nearly three decades of experience and was previously at Rui Bai Law Firm (a PwC network member firm).

According to Reed Smith, “(Li) has a particular focus on the data, TMT and FinTech sectors, with extensive experience advising international and Chinese companies, financial institutions, technology companies and private equity funds on structuring investment, achieving data and cybersecurity compliance, and managing risks related to digital transformation and deployment of emerging technologies such as AI, big data, cloud and blockchain.

Her broader practice focuses on complex and cross-border M&A, business reorganisation, joint ventures and strategic alliances in a wide range of industries including: technology, telecoms, energy, infrastructure, automotive, pharma, consumer products and high-end manufacturing. She also advises Chinese companies on their outbound strategies and infrastructure projects.”
